Maxwell Bauer

Maxwell Bauer was called to the Ontario Bar in 2012 and has dedicated his legal career exclusively to employment law, advocating for both employers and employees. He joined Morrison Reist Krauss as an Associate in the summer of 2017 and, through his commitment, expertise, and leadership, proudly became a partner of Reist Krauss Bauer LLP in 2024.
Background
Max is a lifelong local of Waterloo Region with deep family connections to the Region. He completed his Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Global Studies at Wilfrid Laurier University before earning his Juris Doctor from Queen’s University in 2011. While at Queen’s Law, he distinguished himself through strong academic performance and significant contributions to the law school community, for which he received multiple awards.
Following his legal studies, Max articled in Toronto at a prominent national employment and labour law firm. He subsequently worked in-house at one of Canada’s major financial institutions, providing advice on a wide range of employment-related matters. He later returned to Kitchener Waterloo to continue his practice with Morrison Reist Krauss.
Legal Practice
As a partner at Reist Krauss Bauer LLP, Max provides strategic advice and representation on all aspects of the employment relationship. His work includes navigating terminations, human rights issues, workplace health and safety concerns, conflict resolution, and drafting and negotiating employment agreements and severance packages. Max also represents both employers and employees in litigation and has appeared before various courts and administrative tribunals.
Max is known for his approachable, down to earth manner and for leading with empathy and compassion. He is deeply committed to guiding individuals and organizations through challenging workplace issues, tailoring his approach to each client’s needs to achieve the strongest possible results.
Community Involvement
Max has been interviewed and featured by various media outlets, including the CBC, on employment law issues. He is an active member of the Waterloo Region Law Association and previously served as co chair of its EMPOWR group. Max has also been a guest speaker for legal courses at Wilfrid Laurier University and Trios College, and has presented to the Grand Valley Human Resources Professional Association.
